About Dr. Khallouf

alfredkhallouf-headshotDr. Alfred Khallouf is a Comprehensive Dentist living in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania with over 14 years of clinical experience. He has experience in numerous locations around the world due to his time in the USAF.
Dr. Khallouf’s favorite aspect of dentistry is oral surgery. Alfred’s love for dentistry has been longstanding. When he was growing up, his father often talked about him being a dentist someday. Fortunately for Dr. Khallouf, he enjoyed the idea and became passionate about dentistry. Alfred has wanted to be a dentist since the age of eight; sometimes it was all he could talk about!

Dr. Khallouf went on to The Pennsylvania State University for his undergraduate degree. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology in 1997. Upon graduation from college, he was accepted to dental school. He then went to Dental School at Howard University, College of Dentistry. Howard’s dental program involved a good deal of academic rigor. It was very challenging, but because of A strong sense of community, Alfred felt that he had a solid support system to help him get through it. At the time, Dr. Khallouf thought it was the most challenging thing he had been through. He realizes in retrospect that while Dental School was a difficult experience up until that point, there would be bigger challenges ahead.

Dr. Khallouf entered the professional world of dentistry upon his graduation from dental school in May 2001. He then joined the U.S. Air Force for the next 9 years. Through the Air Force, Alfred practiced dentistry in Washington DC, Alabama, California, Texas and Maryland as well as the country of Turkey. During his time in the military, he completed a very rigorous 2 year AEGD-2 Residency Program. This residency was very challenging as there were many rigid regulations. Participants in the residency would stay up until 2 or 3 AM and wake up at 6 or 7 AM daily. Dr. Khallouf was married at the time and rarely got to spend time with his wife. The residency was tough, but Dr. Khallouf believes it was what made him who he is today. Through this program, he had the opportunity to do nearly anything and everything in the world of dentistry. This invaluable experience helped him to grow professionally and personally. The residency lasted 2 years, but looking back, Dr. Khallouf wishes it was even longer.

Dr. Khallouf believes that people are not informed enough about dental health and hygiene. He would like for that to change. As a dentist, he has heard many misinformed ideas about dentistry. The biggest issue is that patients don’t realize how much they need to care for their own teeth outside of the clinical setting. A lot of a dentist’s work depends on what the patient does at home. Proper dental care is more than just going to the dentist once a year. People need to think about what they are eating and drinking and how they are treating their teeth on a daily basis. A dentist’s job is to identify potential problems and inform the patient of the proper way to address a patient’s personal dental care. No matter how many times a dentist works on a patient’s teeth, self-care will always be crucial.

After completing 10 extra years of education, Dr. Alfred Khallouf has learned that patient education is key. It is important for a dentist to let his or her patients know that they must take care of their body. Dr. Khallouf wishes that patients had more knowledge than they do, and he hopes that one day patients will all take their dentists’ advice. A well-informed patient is an educated patient.
